Types of Skin Cancer

There are 2 different types: the Non-Melanomas and the Melanoma. The Melanoma is the most dangerous while the Non-Melanomas are the most common types.

3 Types of Skin Cancer

Skin cancer has 3 common types: Basal Cell Carcinoma, Squamous Cell Carcinoma and Melanoma. Of the three, the most common is Basal Cell Carcinoma.

Squamous cell carcinoma is more aggressive than Basal cell but is milder than Melanoma. See Squamous Cell Skin Cancer.

Signs of Skin Cancer

There are general signs which include slow-healing sores and blisters that worsen. But there are also specific first signs depending on the type.

What Causes Skin Cancer

There are many causes. The number one cause of facial skin cancer is over-exposure to UVA and UVB rays of the sun. Knowing the causes is a step to learning what is skin cancer.

Signs of Melanoma

Unusual number or changes in moles are the particular signs of melanoma. Having more than 100 moles puts you at a higher risk for melanoma.

How to Prevent Skin Cancer

There are many easy ways to protect your body and facial skin from cancer. The best prevention tip is avoiding the sun especially during its peak hours.

If you can’t stay away from the sun, the next best step on prevention is applying a good and effective body and facial sun block lotion. Aim for one with at least SPF 15 for normal activities and at least SPF 45 for sport activities.
