  • Sulforaphane - the biochemical which boosts immunity and blocks enzymes that attract carcinogens into healthy cells,
  • Compounds - the biochemicals that prevent the formation of carcinogenic nitrosamines (which you can get from foods that cause cancer) in the intestines, and
  • Indoles - the biochemicals that prevent breast tumors and colorectal tumors by as much as 40%. 

When cooking or using these veggies for a salad, always try to add olive oil. The health benefits of olive oil include prevention of different breast cancers.

And the healthy goodness cruciferous vegetables provide doesn't end there. According to a study in the Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, cruciferous vegetables are also extremely rich in isothiocyanates. These important substances can prevent the growth of cancerous cells because they strengthen and enhance your p53 gene. Your p53 gene has the amazing ability to suppress tumors and to keep your normal cells healthy.


2. Different Berries

These include grapes, blueberries, cranberries, strawberries and raspberries. They are proven to be healthy foods to prevent cancer as they contain several tumor-fighting compounds.

Two of the most widely-researched of these compounds are:

  • Ellagic Acid , which strawberries and raspberries are very rich of, and
  • Anthocyanins, which are abundant in blueberries.

Ellagic acid acts as antioxidant and slows down abnormal cells in multiplying. It is found to help prevent skin, bladder, lung, and breast tumors in particular.

The anthocyanins are compounds that give berries their deep color. They are presently the most potent antioxidants known to scientists.

3. Soy

Tumors are easy to prevent when you are eating soy regularly because it is rich in phytonutrients specifically isoflavones.

Why are isoflavones important? Remember tumors need new blood vessels to survive and to reproduce. Isoflavones can fight cancer by stopping the growth of new blood vessels. Without new blood vessels, tumors will die.

Isoflavones also regulate the production of the sex hormones: the estrogen and the testosterone. Too much of these hormones can lead to growth of prostate and breast tumors.

Soy also blocks the carcinogenic effects of intestinal bile acids which encourage tumors to form in your colon. All you need is to include one serving a day of soy to your eating plan to get its full benefits.

A serving means a half-cup of soybeans or tofu or a cup of soy milk.

4. Allium vegetables

Allium vegetables include garlic, onions, chives and leeks.

Their most active compounds are allicin and diallyl disulfide.
